A Weekend Feast

What a busy weekend. Friday night I went over to Liz’s and tried to watch one of her favorite movies “Best of Show”. Unfortunately between the fingerprints and the scratches, whole scenes would not play and were skipped over, like the DVD player had a random fast-forward-skip option stuck on.

Saturday morning Chief Engineer Howard Graham came by the house for an on-site inspection to review and finalize the freight elevator plans. After reviewing the drawings with Bill W. and myself, an inspection hole in the stairwell ceiling was created so we could see what challenges lay ahead.
Bill and Howard look surprised by the what the inspection hole reveals.

After measurements were taken, the whole sloping portion of the stairwell ceiling was removed to create the necessary overhead space required by the finished locomotive. One drywall job coming up! Major work on the elevator will begin after the first of the year.

Saturday evening was a stuffing/casserole contest between friends, and ironically, the probably least equipped kitchen was chosen for the event – Mine! With help from Liz the kitchen was resupplied the oven fired up and all of us prepared a feast. Dinner was turkey with cranberry stuffing, gravy, acorn squash with corn bread casserole (Liz’s), mashed potatoes (me), cranberry, cornbread, corn and a pumpkin roll for desert. The contest was called a draw since there was only one entry for each stuffing/casserole.

After our late evening dinner we started watching the movie “Tropic Thunder” even later into the night. That movie proved in my mind that B-grade moves are alive and well. Unless you are a Ben Stiller fan, I’d skip it altogether.
Sleeping in on Sunday, I got a call from my buddy Mark with an extra ticket to the Rams game that afternoon. They were great corporate seats and we watched some good football – at least from opponents the Arizona Cardinals—and the Rams increased their losses to 9 with only 1 win.

After the game several of us went out for some beers, ended up at the “Flamingo Bowl” bar & bowling alley. I did okay bowling most of the game opening the 10th frame with a gutter ball but cleaning up with a 10-pin spare and a follow-on strike for a dramatic finish to get my 128 pin score! And then I headed home for a turkey sandwich, a play with Max and off to bed! Whew, I need a weekend for my weekend!
