Snowmobiles for dinner
Friday night Mom, Dad, my brother, nephew and his fiancee, went out to dinner at at the nearby Stones Tavern. Being Friday, they of course had the typical fried haddock as the special that night.
Not so typical, at least for the lower latitudes including St. Louis, was the Snowmobiles parked in the parking lot, just like you'd park a car, two per parking slot if there were lines underneath the snow. The Rails to Trails path runs behind the tavern, and when there's snow, there's traffic on it. So two snowmobiles outside in the parking lot is not unusual, but inside there was metal shelving unit right at the end of the bar which struck me as a bit odd. It is just like the one I have in the basement with paint cans and stuff stored on it. In a backroom storing kitchen or bathroom supplies on it I could imagine, but in a prominent place in the bar?
A long look at it answered my question - It had snowmobile helmets on it. Now I understand. If you leave it outside, you have to put a cold helmet on. And who would do that when you can bring it inside and keep it warm? And at Stone's Tavern, they even have place for it so it won't get in the way when you're at the bar.
