Digging for Strawberries
We had two consecutive days without rain, a first in about a month, so I thought I'd see if the robins left me any strawberries in the berry patch. I had to dig around through the overgrown weeds to find the strawberry plants - weeding just wasn't on my spring do to list. But the weeding was easy with the ground almost like muck. In fact I was able to pull a couple of weed tree saplings out that I have been trying to kill but cutting down for a while. It's amazing how a 6" tree sprout can have a 24" tap root!
About one third of this years meager crop was had by the birds, another third was rotting due to the sopping wet soil, the remaining four berries sure tasted good!
------------
It's also been hot and humid this week - in the 80s and 90s and a little too warm for Max. Evidently the night time is the right time, and without the threat of thunderstorms Max has been sleeping outside for the past two nights. All night.
Apparently the strawberry patch is also a good place to dig in as I saw his muddy toes this morning before seeing the fresh dug hole under the kitchen window. I told him do dig where the weeds are, not what I've already weeded, but he just looked at me and rolled over on his back for a belly rub.

We to are experiencing 90 degree weather. Thunder woke me out of a sound sleep last night. Of course it was only 11pm so I guess that it wasn't very late. Not much rain though. Saw Don Galbraith Wed. and he said they haven't had over a half in in more than a month. Too bad about your strawberries. Glad you got a couple.Max is quite a character.
We took the morning off and put the canoe in Black Creek while deNormands tried out their new kayaks. We say blue herons, ducks, turtles, yellow water iris. Fran had never been on the creek before so we all enjoyed our morning adventure. Of course we had lunch out at the Main Street Deli in town afterwards. It was like being on vacation. Now we are off (after showers and naps) to Southtowne Plaza. My sewing machine broke last week and is repaired. Didn't really want to buy a new machine. I'm kind of attached to the old one. The drive gear for the bobbin was wore out.
Too hot in the house so I will close and get into the airconditioned car. A treat at $4.20 a gal. of gas.!!!
Talk to you soon.
