The Grill is Hot again
Talking to a fellow at lunch last week said he was going out to buy some good meat and grill up a bunch this weekend. "Big party?" I asked. "No. Just got the built-in grill fixed, wasn't putting out any heat. Turns out itty bitty spiders plugged up the gas jet. Works great after I had it serviced!"
After mowing the lawn today under beautiful warm skies and then spending three hours trying to hand weed the iris bed (which is full of ragweed, it turns out), a nice pork chop sounded good. But when I used the grill a month ago it barely put out enough heat to warm a hot dog. On full hot the temperature needle barely left the 'warm' range. Hmmm....
Attacking the grill with tools, I take the control valve out and look at it. The left jet looks clogged and can't tell on the right. I quick dip in the solvent tank cleans up the outside and sure enough, there is debris inside. A little solvent, a brass brush and some compressed air cleans that up just fine. I also open the gas valve momentarily to blow out anything in the line, but I think the volume is too low to really do that.
After re-assembly, the jets sound like my acetylene torch - a loud hissing sound. With both sides on full hot, the flames were putting out some heat! I turned them down after the temperature needle was approaching HOT.
And the pork chop was delicious.
