EDM comes to the shop

I couldn't pass up to opportunity to get this little EDM unit. Electrical Discharge Machining. Think of it as a spark-erosion unit because it creates a spark to the material you are machining and erodes it away, a tiny bit at a time. Almost every master mold made today for something plastic is made using this technology. Today Bill and I went to the machine tool company, I struck a deal and we loaded it up on Al's trailer.

Now if I or anyone else ever breaks a threading tap, I can 'burn' it out and salvage the part instead of scrapping it.

All I have to do is clean out the tank, make a bench to put it on, move it to the basement, wire it to the shop 3-phase power supply, make an electrode, find some manuals so I can figure out how to run it.... Maybe I'll have it ready in the spring.
