20-Oct-09 Getting the hole layout and punching the holes in the gasket is a two step process. First, using the aluminum template from the previous step, the gasket is placed under the cylinder cover and the cover placed on the close-fitting template. We just needed to get the cover off the bench, so it is sitting on a piece of pipe. Using a 7/32" center punch pin, and holding the assembly down, we punch a dimple in the center of each of the bolt holes. After this we go to the die block and with the same punch pin locate the gasket in the center of the hole using the punched dimple. Replacing the pin with the die cutter and a quick tap with the hammer, we punch neat bolt holes in the gasket.
